  So......online dating sites; yay or nay?

  ok, all you lovely people,.

  so it's been a year now since mrs h and i went our seperate ways, and even though there are people on the boards that i've come to love very much i've started having a tic in one eye whenever i see a presentable lady in real life.

  i guess that means that i maybe ready to start looking for some female companionship.. thing is, it''s been over 20 years since i last went on 'the pull', and i'm a bit rusty these days.

  I've looked at them but wouldn't sign up to one. I just think if its all too obvious, its gonna be rushed or forced. Better in my view to join social groups that get you to see more people of the opposite sex, so much better if you can like someone and then something develops from there I recon.

  I think its also good to not need someone in your life, but should they come along then they can enhance it. More and more people are going the single route these days, maybe relationships (romantic) are on there way out? I do find it odd that we have this in built desire to be with someone and yet it can be awfully difficult to do anything about it, and yet you see couple's all the time, so some are able to do the dating game alright.

  Disfellowshipping smokers is an outrage!

  how does the society scripturally justify taking the ultra-harsh measure of disfellowshipping and shunning persons who merely enjoy smoking a few cigarettes a day?

  in what way is mild smoking a gross sin that is deserving of such a harsh punishment?

  how on earth does the society make the connection between the scriptural exhortation to 'cleanse ourselves of every defilement of flesh and spirit' (2 cor 7:1 & 2) to taking the extremely harsh measure of denying a smoker the right to any contact with their fellow congregation members, friends, and jw family?

  Although I dislike smoking, and can't stand it when i'm close to it, I have to say that its not up to a self appointed body to say you'll be less christian that someone else who doesnt smoke and be kicked out for it. If it was truly christian, then it would be a conscience matter, some would feel its wrong, because say the're level of understanding and spirituallity is more advanced, where as someone else may not see it that way as far as their own understanding takes them. But yet here we have an example of having to comply to man made rules and understanding of the verses which completely does away with your own conscience. And as has been pointed out its at odds with so many other things they do and have said. So if its wrong to smoke why is it ok to run a car or go on planes????

  607 to 1914 calculation question

  is there any culture that actually used years of 360 days length?

  if so, surely there would still be some kind of leap year to correct the calendar, why is that not taken into account?

  i'd never thought about it when i was a dub because you're not supposed to think!

  This is something thats occured to me also - let me explain what i dont get and see if someone can make sense of it (in laymans terms please)

  If the years are 360 days long, that the society (and others) use to calculate 607 to 1914, and i'm guessing the Romans introduced the calender we use today of 365 (with leap years), then is most of the one thousand and forteen years made up of days equaling to 365 days long - meaning that to use 360 day years would mean it would have come much sooner? I hope this makes sense.

  i was in heavy doubt about the organization, but still in the back of my mind i was a bit hesitant of posting because it was the "unforgivable sin".

  i think it took me 20 minutes to type my first post.

  i still felt that once i submitted my post that a bolt of lightning was going to come down upon me, so my hands were shaking as i was typing.

  The fear you describe really came from me reseaching the JW's online - I was pretty scared and thought once i'd crossed that line, there was no going back. But to my surprise there wasn't anything to worry about and only things to gain.

  i've been posting on here for four years now, and so much has changed in my life.

  everything seemed to be going wrong then, but time has done wonders and things are real good now.

  lots of people on the board helped and supported me through that, as well as new non-witness friends that i made.

  A pretty pointless study that should bore the majority of the R & F, as said its just to lead into the next article. Good points about the anointed verses 'other sheep' , how do they try to apply things to this invented group of people thery have? Why was it so easy to go along with the two class system? I saw there was only the anointed mentioned in the Bible but i allowed myself to continue to going along with the false intepretation for far too long.

  I think that there was far too much emphasis placed on sex, its talked about so frequently and sometimes a little graphic for meetings of worship in my view. I think all it did was make it more desirable, because of the constant attention the subject got.

  One To Get Them Thinking...

  besty and i told my best friend last night we had decided to stop going to the meetings (mainly due to exhaustion/heart not in it/few organsiational issues in the news had bothered us etc, etc).

  she was disappointed but felt that we should do what's right for us - she would only have a problem with us if we went down the 'apostate route'!

  further into the brief discussion we had besty asked her a classic "how would you know if jehovah's spirit had been withdrawn from the organisation" - she thought about it for a moment and concluded that zero growth would possible be a sign - we didn't have the heart to tell her that taking into account the drop out rate/population growth that that is precisely where the borg is right now!!

  Hi sweetpea,

  unfortunately i have burned most of my bridges when it comes to asking such a well reasoned question, my ministry (for want of a better word) is to talk about the dubs to people whom i've met since that time. There is one person that I regularly talk to who is well in, but its hard going, but maybe its an idea, of course they love to put spin on things, if their numbers grow its God speeding it up, if its slow it means the end is real near
